Amanda and Clay’s wedding at Trillium and Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC was one I won’t soon forget! This ceremony and reception are the kind of events that wedding photographers dream about. Every single detail had been thought of and attended to, and I mean, really, who wouldn’t want to take photos at Old Edwards Inn? It’s absolutely GORGEOUS! I would have spent the entire weekend just wandering the grounds with this sweet couple, taking thousands of photos, if they had let me.
Amanda and Clay met at Elon University their sophomore year. He was a cross country running and she was sprinter on the track team. They were also neighbors which made hanging out super easy! Clay actually invited Amanda and her roommates over to his apartment to carve pumpkins. Shortly after, he left dairy free brownies at her door step and it was pretty much over after that!
Clay proposed after long 6 years of dating. They were living in St. Louis at the time and he had planned for a picnic dinner with some friends at a park for Easter dinner 2015. Little did Amanda know at the top of a cliff he would propose. Along the hike were Easter eggs that said 10 more min, 5 more min, etc. Then, at the end of a cliff over looking a valley, was the final egg that said “eternity” in it. Amanda turned around and there Clay was, down on one knee!
On their wedding day, the atmosphere was calm and relaxed. Amanda’s excitement was contagious, and Clay was the absolute picture of cool and collected. If he was even the tiniest bit nervous, it didn’t show. The constant smiles, the gorgeous wedding party, and the perfect surroundings made my job incredibly easy!

The day started at Old Edwards Inn in the cottage close to the reception, where hair and makeup was being done. The guys were hanging out upstairs, doing boy things…while the girls were getting even more gorgeous downstairs. Amanda had some of the sweetest bridesmaids I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Amanda’s mom helped her into her dress, while her girls oohed and ahhed. After separate formal photos for the girls and boys, Amanda and Clay snuck away for a first look on the bridge over the pond. After tears were dried and makeup was touched up, the group headed over to Trillium Links and Lake Club for the ceremony. Talk about a VIEW!! The weather was perfect and the ceremony was beautiful! Girls and guys, seriously consider giving your photographer the opportunity to see you from the other side during your ceremony. You’ll get some super unique photos that way! After the ceremony, it was back to Old Edwards Inn for one heck of a party!
All in all, this wedding is easily one of my most favorite ones that I’ve EVER gotten to participate in. If you’re getting married at OEI, let’s chat! Definitely one of my favorite venues!
Amanda and Clay, no one deserves a more perfect day than you two. I’m so glad that you selected me to photograph your wedding and to be there to close the chapter on engaged life, and open the new chapter of married life. Your sweet spirits and love for each other were a true treat to witness. I wish you ALL the very best as you chase your dreams!
